After failing to find a decent winning strategy…
I went for a losing one.
But with a twist 🙂
Watch video below:
The Strategy: Gold ICT OrderBlock EA
This is an automated strategy trading XAUUSD on a low timeframe, built around:
- Order blocks
- Liquidity sweeps
- Market structure shifts
On paper, it sounds smart. Institutional concepts. Session timing. Clean logic.
But none of that matters if the numbers don’t back it up.
The Reality Check
Here’s how it actually performed in backtesting:
- 153 total trades
- 36.6% win rate
- Profit factor of 0.45
- Net loss of -£355
- Drawdown just under 20%
- Time frame : H1 (performed worst)
- NY and London session (setting)
In simple terms…
It loses money. Consistently.
So I thought, since I’m having difficulty finding a winning strategy
What if I reverse a losing one?
Because a consistently losing system often means one thing:
It has an edge… just in the wrong direction.
The Reverse Strategy
By flipping the trades (buy → sell, sell → buy), everything changes:
- Profit Factor jumps above 2.0
- Win rate moves above 60%
- Trade count stays solid (150+)
- Drawdown remains controlled (~19%)
Now compare that to my checklist:
✅ The 5 point backtest Criteria
- Profit Factor ≥ 1.5 → ✅ Passed
- Max Drawdown ≤ 20% → ✅ Passed
- Win Rate ≥ 50% → ✅ Passed
- 100+ Trades Minimum → ✅ Passed
- Clean Equity Curve → ✅ When you flip the graph!

This now becomes the first strategy to forward test the 100 → 1M challenge.
But not in its original form.
As a reverse-engineered strategy.
Next steps,
- Need to create a another demo account so that we can reverse the trades on the 2nd demo account
- Need to install trade copier software so we can copy the trades from the strategy demo account to the 2nd demo account in reverse.
