If you’ve been running backtests on MetaTrader 5 and everything looks fine… there’s a hidden problem you might be missing.
Storage.
Yeah, not exciting, but it matters more than you think.
When you run backtests, especially with tick data, optimisation, or multiple EAs…
Your C drive starts getting filled fast.
And once that happens:
- Your platform slows down
- Worst case… things just stop working properly
It’s not obvious at first. It starts getting obvious, when you see your c drive is in red color!
What I Had to Fix
I hit that exact issue.
My C drive was getting clogged from continuous backtesting. Instead of letting it get worse, I moved the entire demo test environment over to the D drive where there’s more space.
Simple move. Big difference.
Now:
- Backtests should run smoother
- Lesser storage bottlenecks (for now)
- Cleaner, more reliable testing environment
Why This Actually Matters
If you’re serious about building something long-term, whether that’s one bot or a full portfolio, you can’t afford sloppy infrastructure.
Everyone wants “profitable EAs”…
But hardly anyone talks about the environment those EAs run in.
That’s where problems start.
